Professor Nyerhovwo John Tonukari: Secretary

Prof. Nyerhovwo John Tonukari was born at about 12:10 pm on Monday 14th of February, 1966 in Sapele. He had his early education at Ufuoma Primary School and Okotie-Eboh Grammar School, Sapele. He obtained his B.Sc. in Biochemistry (First Class Honours) from the University of Maiduguri in 1987 and M.Sc. from the University of Ibadan in 1990. Thereafter, he proceeded to the Michigan State University, East Lansing, USA, where he obtained his Ph.D. in 2000.

He was briefly at the University of Naples, Italy in 1992 and Washington University, St. Louis, USA in 1994. He is a recipient of the Thoman Fellowship, USA (1999), the Rockefeller Foundation Fellowship, USA (1994) and Federal Government Postgraduate Scholarship (1990).Prof. Tonukari is the current Head of Department of Biochemistry, Delta State University, Abraka, Delta State.

He is also the Editor of the African Journal of Biotechnology and Nigerian Journal of Science and Environment. Other positions he has held include: Director, Institute of Information and Computer Technology, Delta State University; Director, Pre-Degree Programme, Delta State University (2007 to 2010); Associate Scientist, International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI), Nairobi, Kenya (2002 to 2004); Postdoctoral Fellow, James R. Randle Research Center, Archer Daniels Midland Company, Decatur, USA (2000 to 2002); Research Associate, International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA), Ibadan (1991 to 1995); Science Teacher, Gindiri High School, Plateau State (1987 to 1988); and Messenger, African Timber and Plywood (AT&P), Sapele (1982).

 

Nyerhovwo Tonukari r’Agbon is a futurist and the founder of the African Research Laboratories, Otorho Agbon (Isiokolo). He sits on the board of Harmony Path Ltd and he is the publisher of Sapele Times and The Nigerian Archive (www.nigeriarchive.com). He has several academic publications, a book, and two patents to his credit. He is the current President of the Senior Staff Club of Delta State University, Abraka and Captain of the Badminton Section of the Sapele Athletic Club. Nyerhovwo is married to Eseoghene (nee Egbedi) and they are blessed with three children.

 

He is the Secretary, Board of Trustee of the Felix Anirah Foundation.
